Mr Deepack Manohar
Deepack Manohar is the current Chairman of the Kathak Kala Sangam, and is also an IT Consultant and Software Developer for over 20 years. He is currently the Managing Director of SystemAid Caribbean Limited, the leading provider of software solutions in Trinidad & Tobago.
Indian Classical Music is one of his favorite hobbies. He is currently a performing artist and teacher at the Kathak Kala Sangam.
He is actively involved in conducting research in the different types of indo-drums, both classical and folk, such as Tabla, Pakhawaj, Dholak and Tassa in Trinidad. The main aim of this research is to elevate these types of drumming styles to a higher position where possible.
Mr Manohar was born, and grew up in the south town of Debe, where during his secondary school days started experimenting with drums and computers, hence his liking for both.
He went on to obtain a BSc in Computer Science from the University of the West Indies, and then a Masters in Business Administration. He also obtained the Certificate in Indian Classical Music (Sangeet Prathama) from UTT.
This programme provided educational artistic enrichment and training in Indian music. His training provided a creative and intellectually stimulating environment in which students can acquire the basic elements of local and Indian Classical music and to further develop their performance skills and pursue advanced studies. He studied Vocal, Harmonium and Tabla and also learnt the concept of 'Raga' (specific sound compositions) and Taal (rhythmic cycles). Music Performance and related areas of artistic development and performance formed a part of his learning experience.
